My bet is that remote will become much more common. As told by an executive to me: there are more engineers in Europe than in the USA, and it’s cheaper to employ in Europe. So they will increase their workforce here. Following the approach where companies tested themselves against remote work, it makes sense to hire in close timezones where the cost is smaller. Also with the increase of somewhate-specialized programmers due to bootcamps, we should see the wage for software engineering to fall.
With China growing, there will be also space for tech outside the Global North to take over the market. This will also bring diversity and better competition, forcing the Global North corporations to reduce their waste. The covid19 will speed up this.
